From Dirt to Tech: Why I Started Earthwork Digital
Hi, I’m Joe — founder of Earthwork Digital LLC.But my journey didn’t begin behind a computer. It began in the field. I was practically raised on construction sites, working for my family’s excavation business. Over the years, I wore every hat you can think of: laborer, operator, grade checker, foreman — and eventually, owner.
Through the years, I gained a deep understanding of how civil sitework really operates — from the field to the front office. That hands-on experience shaped everything I do today.
The Moment Everything Changed – Discovering the Power of Digital Estimating
Growing up in civil construction gave me more than just experience. It gave me a deep understanding of the problems contractors face when it comes to accurate estimating — especially for dirt work.
Like many others in the industry, I used to rely on hand takeoffs, mental math, and guesswork to estimate jobs. I can’t count how many bids we missed—or how many we won but underpriced—because our numbers weren’t dialed in. But that all changed the day I discovered AGTEK software.
The precision, speed, and clarity it offered blew me away. I knew right then that digital estimating wasn’t the future — it was now. So I went all in.

After years of working with takeoff software and survey systems in-house, I realized something:
